Jane Austen: A Brief Biography

Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775, in Steventon, Hampshire, England. She was the seventh of eight children born to George Austen, a clergyman, and Cassandra Leigh Austen. Austen's family was well-educated and well-connected, and she received a good education at home. She began writing at a young age, and by the time she was in her early twenties, she had written several novels, including Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.

Austen's novels were not published until she was in her thirties. Sense and Sensibility was published in 1811, followed by Pride and Prejudice in 1813.
